If you didn’t know it’s Halloween tomorrow so I thought it only fair to make todays #TrainingTips post a bit of a SCARY one.
Here are my annual scary health & fitness facts that are bound to get you in the mood for Halloween and also scare you into getting you bums into gear.
Not advised but interesting
Banging your head against the wall burns almost 150 calories per hour… sounds stupid I know but all physical movement increases your energy output, so get moving guys. As trick or treating and indulging ones self is normal here’s some other enlightening facts. It takes 540 press ups to burn off one donut and you would have to walk for 134 minutes to burn off a pumpkin spiced latte from Starbucks. And my favourite, it’ll take you 17 minutes of continual burpees to burn off a bite sized Snickers.
Like eating fly vomit?
Did you know? Flies can’t eat solid food; because of this they vomit on the food and stamp on it until the food particles are in a liquid state. They then stuck up all that lovely goodness, yummy. Also flies eat almost everything too, including faeces and dirt. Think about that next time a fly lands on your food.
Diabetes is the new Bogey Man
The average child will be returning home with between 2,000 and 7,000 worth of calories in their sweet and innocent Halloween hoard. Reese’s peanut butter cups are becoming very popular, I enjoy them too, but with 10.5 grams of sugar per cup, watch how many you’re devouring.
Beards are the in thing at the moment but did you know your beard harbours the same bacteria that live in your armpits. If you sweat, that lovely beard could end up smelling like your armpits, now isn’t that nice. Keep that beard clean guys.
Every time you sneeze or cough you spread around about 40,000 droplets which can leave your body at more than 100mph. Scientist have also found that in a typical cubic metre of air, on average there is 16,000 particles of flu viruses. Nice…
An investigation into children’s metabolism found that during watching TV the average child’s metabolism and calorie burn was actually 14.5 % slower than when they were simply lying in bed.
Inhaling the dead
The average person inhales in almost 20kg of dust over their lifetime. Gross because dust is dead skin right? Wrong… well yes and no. Dust comes from far more common sources like animal dander, insect waste, dirt and yeah a little dead skin. But you will find most of our dead skin is removed when washing and so goes straight down the drain. You probably feel better about that.
According to the Food and Drug Administration the average chocolate bar contains eight insect pieces. Even more surprising for the people that seem to be allergic to chocolate, it seems they aren’t reacting to the cocoa, but actually to the ground up cockroach and other insects that are in their chocolate.
Our bodies create saliva as part of our digestive process, this starts the breakdown process and also lubricates your food for transport. But did you know? The average person over there lifetime produce enough saliva to fill two large swimming pools.
Well after that I can’t wait to get out there and start trick or treating.
Have a great weekend guys.
Stay strong and live, love and laugh!
